Discover how Baileys Skip Hire & Recycling is proud to support Paul’s journey to recovery, and why the community at the heart of that recovery means so much to us.
Life Can Change in an Instant
In January 2025, Paul suffered a massive stroke.
It began when his partner, Katy, received a phone call to say that Paul’s speech had changed, his face had dropped, and he looked unsteady, almost as though he’d lost his balance out of nowhere. An ambulance was called and Paul was taken to hospital in Peterborough, where medical staff initially suspected a TIA (a mini-stroke).
But Paul told Katy things had got worse. He was suffering from a massive headache, and Katy made sure hospital staff knew immediately. An urgent CT scan followed, and it revealed a bleed on the brain.
It’s a stark reminder of how life can change in an instant, and it’s exactly why support, community, and recovery matter so much afterwards.
Where Support Makes a Difference
Inspired by Active in Motion’s unique approach to rehabilitation, Baileys Skip Hire & Recycling wanted to give something back to the community, and support was exactly what Paul needed.
Levi Robinson, General Manager at Baileys, explained how the partnership came about:
“We had Gary McQuade visit the site, a friend of Nathan Bailey, the owner of Baileys Skip Hire, and he showed us Active in Motion in Corby. We were blown away with what they do, and we were 100% behind getting involved and giving people the opportunity for help in the local area.”
Baileys chose to support Paul directly by sponsoring his membership at Active in Motion.
What Active in Motion Means to the Community
Shonagh Fullarton, Centre Manager at Active in Motion, explained what the charity represents:
“Active in Motion to me means community. It means finding a place where everyone can train together, it doesn’t matter their ability, and have any age from 10 upwards. We’re able to support people with that journey as part of the community.”
As a local business, Baileys has always been passionate about the community and the people who make it what it is, and this partnership is a perfect example of that in action.
Paul’s Progress
Katy shared that since being at Active in Motion (AIM), Paul’s balance while walking has improved, along with strength in his legs. Paul himself has spoken about how much of a difference it has made.
Baileys is proud to play a part in Paul’s journey, helping him rebuild his strength and restore his confidence, one step at a time.
Gary McQuade, Operations Manager at Active in Motion, spoke about the wider impact of sponsorship for the charity:
“Active in Motion is a charity, and the sponsorship we receive helps us support the many people from our community. Because of the way we work, we support lots of people with lots of different conditions, people in pre and post rehabilitation, so having this sponsorship coming in from Baileys is so important for our community.”
Supporting Active in Motion, Supporting Local People
Paul’s journey continues, and we’ll be revisiting his story towards the end of 2026 to see how far he’s come.
At Baileys, we believe that being a local business means more than just doing a job well, it means standing behind the people and organisations that make our community stronger. We’re proud to support Active in Motion, and even prouder to support Paul.
