Important Changes Coming- Simpler Recycling Rules for Businesses in England

Is your business prepared for the significant changes in recycling regulations coming to England?
From March 31st, 2025, businesses with 10 or more full-time equivalent employees must comply with new Simpler Recycling rules introduced by the Department for Environmental and Rural Affairs.
These regulations will fundamentally change how businesses handle their waste, aiming to boost recycling rates across England through standardised collection methods. The key change? Your business can no longer dispose of recyclable materials in general waste bins.
Understanding the New Requirements
The Simpler Recycling initiative aims to transform recycling practices by standardising waste collection across England. This reform focuses on three key objectives: standardising recyclable collections nationwide, ensuring recyclable materials are separated from general waste, and significantly reducing contamination in recycling bins.
Understanding Contamination
Contamination has become a crucial focus under these new regulations. A bin is considered contaminated when it contains materials that don’t belong there. This includes recyclable items in general waste or non-recyclable items in recycling bins. It’s important to note that waste carriers cannot collect contaminated bins, as this would breach compliance regulations.
The introduction of Simpler Recycling represents a significant change in how businesses manage their waste. While these changes may require some adjustment, they’re designed to create a more sustainable future by increasing recycling rates and reducing waste sent to landfill.
Start preparing now to ensure your business is ready for these important changes.

By partnering with a credible waste management company, we have highly invested in sorting equipment here on site in Corby to increase recycling, divert waste from landfills while keeping sorting costs down as much as possible for our customers. By doing this we do the sorting for you, so you don’t have to.

Predominantly with the changes we believe this is mainly aimed at food waste, but as you are aware we do not take this waste in our skips but if things have changed and you need this quoting for we can help!

Our sorting system actively separates Soils, Aggregate, Wood, Metals, Cardboard, Paper, Plastics so we believe on a whole to have multiple skips collections/services it is not environmental and economically practicable, but if you feel you need a waste audit that follows the ‘Technically, Environmentally and Economically Practicable’ (TEEP) guidelines then we are here to help!
